J.J. STEELE BETRAYS HIS TAG TEAM PARTNER, BECOMES WORLD CHAMPION! J.J. Steele is now the MPW World Heavyweight Champion but he did not gain the title without some questionable tactics. The Main Event for "No Excuses" was a title match scheduled between J.J. Steele and champion Logan X. JJ had previously earned the title shot by winning a 10 man battle royal in 2012. The first time these two met in a one on one contest the match went 15 minutes but ended in a no contest when then MPW Tag Team Champions Crayz and Frankie D attacked both men in protest for not being booked on the card. A minute later an impromptu match took place for the tag team titles and a minute after that Logan X and J.J. Steele were the MPW Tag Team Champions. A rematch for the World title would've occurred on the next show, however Logan X suffered a broken foot during the match with Steele. J.J. Steele picked up a high profile singles win against the returning Mario Banks on the next card but was attacked after the match by former MPW Tag Team Champions Anchors Away in an effort to perhaps force their way into the # 1 contenders spot. The tactic worked and upon Logan's foot healing the champions defended their belts successfully against Anchor's Away with the help of WWE legend Brutus Beefcake. With the tag titles defended the focus was placed on the unfinished business regarding the World Title. Both Steele and Logan were in the ring waiting for the bell to ring to start their rematch when Anchor's Away and the U.S. Mercenary approached the ring and demanded a rematch for the tag titles stating that Brutus Beefcake had caused an unfair match with the threats of the use of his hedge clippers. They also stated that they would cause a no contest as Crayz and Frankie D had done before them if they didn't get what they wanted. Logan agreed which angered Steele. After all this was the second time Steele was having his World Championship match taken away from him. Logan told Steele that they could pick up their singles match, "anytime" that Steele wanted. The tag titles were on the line as Anchor's Away got their second chance at the belts since returning to MPW. During the match Logan accidently super kicked Steele which caused Logan to suffer a double high toss power slam at the hands of both members of Anchor's Away. Steele climbed to the top rope but instead of saving Logan from being pinned, Steele hit Logan with a frog splash that allowed Anchor's away to get the pin fall victory and become the new MPW Tag Team Champions. Steele enraged, brought two steel chairs into the ring, placed one around Logan's foot and delivered numerous chair shots to his leg. Steele then grabbed the microphone and let his frustration with Logan out, including publicly calling Logan by his real name "Paul" because according to Steele, Logan was "a broken man". Steele then demanded his championship match right then and there. The bell rang and Steele hit Logan with a big spear. Logan was able to kick out at 2 but this only led Steele to deliver a inverted tombstone pile driver which knocked Logan out. Steele pinned Logan in the middle of the ring to become the new MPW World Heavyweight Champion. Logan has not made a statement since the event and is rumored to have suffered another broken foot. Steele has promised that an new era in MPW has begun and the best is yet to come. A series of interesting facts associated with this turn of events: Anchors Away become the first team to hold the MPW Tag Team Titles on two different occasions. In addition they are also the current So-Cal Pro Tag Team Champions. Logan X was the first triple crown title winner in MPW history holding the Maximum title twice, and the World and Tag Team titles once each. Logan X was also the first man to hold two MPW titles at the same time. Logan X is also the first man to lose two titles in the same night. J.J. Steele is only the second man in MPW history to hold both the MPW Tag Team and World Championship at different times.
